Frequently Asked Questions
Straight answers about tree service costs, safety, permits, oak wilt, and how we work — everything DFW homeowners ask us most.
Pricing & Estimates
How much does tree removal cost in Dallas–Fort Worth?
Most removals run $300–$2,500+ depending on the tree's height, trunk diameter, condition, and proximity to structures or power lines. Very large trees or those requiring a crane cost more. Every job gets a free written estimate first, so you'll know the exact price before any work starts.
How much does tree trimming cost?
Typically $200–$900 per tree in the DFW area, based on size, condition, and access. Trimming multiple trees in one visit almost always lowers the per-tree price. Estimates are free.
How much does stump grinding cost?
Most stumps cost $100–$400 to grind, priced mainly by diameter at the widest point. Multi-stump discounts apply, and grinding is cheapest when scheduled together with a tree removal.
Are your estimates really free?
Yes — completely free, in writing, with no obligation, anywhere in the DFW metroplex. The written price is the price you pay; we don't do surprise add-ons.
Do you offer discounts?
Yes: multi-tree and multi-stump discounts, and combined-service pricing when you bundle (for example, removal plus stump grinding). Just ask when you get your quote.
Licensing, Insurance & Safety
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. We carry full general liability insurance and workers' compensation coverage, and we provide certificates of insurance before work begins. Never let an uninsured crew work on your property — if a worker is injured, the liability can land on you.
Why does insurance matter so much for tree work?
Tree work is consistently ranked among the most dangerous jobs in America. If an uninsured worker is hurt on your property, or an uninsured crew drops a limb through your roof, your homeowner's policy — and your personal assets — can be on the hook. A legitimate certificate of insurance protects you from both risks.
Will you damage my lawn with heavy equipment?
We protect turf with plywood or lawn mats when equipment must cross it, and much of our work is done by climbing or from the street or driveway. We treat the yard as part of the job — cleanup and property care are included in every quote.
Permits & City Rules
Do I need a permit to remove a tree in Dallas?
Sometimes. The City of Dallas protects certain trees (by species and trunk diameter) under Article X of its development code, mainly on commercial and multi-family property; single-family homeowners have broad rights on their own lots but exceptions exist. Rules differ in every DFW suburb — we check what applies to your property as part of the estimate.
What about other DFW cities?
Fort Worth, Plano, Southlake, Colleyville, Flower Mound, and many other suburbs have tree preservation ordinances, especially for large-diameter or heritage trees. Some require permits or mitigation for removals. We work across the whole metroplex, so we know the local rules and handle the paperwork when it's required.
Oak Wilt & Tree Health
When should oak trees be pruned in North Texas?
Only during the safe windows: roughly November through January (winter dormancy) or July–August (peak summer heat). Avoid February through June, when the sap-feeding beetles that spread oak wilt are most active. Every fresh oak cut should be sealed immediately with pruning paint — we do this on every oak, every time.
What does oak wilt look like?
On live oaks: veinal necrosis — leaf veins turning yellow then brown while the blade stays green — with progressive canopy thinning over months. On red oaks: rapid wilting and browning of entire sections, often killing the tree within 3–6 weeks. If you suspect oak wilt, get a professional assessment quickly; nearby oaks may be at risk through root grafts.
Can a sick tree be saved instead of removed?
Often, yes — especially when problems are caught early. Chlorosis, many pest infestations, soil compaction, and early-stage disease respond well to treatment. We give you an honest assessment: if a $200 treatment will save the tree, we'd rather do that than sell you a removal.
Scheduling & Service
How quickly can you do the work?
Free estimates typically happen within 24–48 hours of your call, and most jobs are scheduled within the same week. Emergency work — trees on structures or blocking access — gets 24/7 response across the metroplex.
Do you clean up and haul away debris?
Yes — complete cleanup is standard. Limbs and brush are chipped and hauled, wood is removed (or cut and stacked as firewood if you prefer), and the work area is raked before we leave. The final walkthrough is yours.
What areas do you serve?
The entire Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex: Dallas, Fort Worth, Arlington, Plano, Frisco, McKinney, Irving, Garland, Denton, Grand Prairie, Mesquite, Carrollton, Richardson, Lewisville, and 45+ more cities across 8 North Texas counties. See our Service Areas page for the full list.
How should I choose between tree service quotes?
Compare four things: (1) proof of liability and workers' comp insurance, (2) a written, itemized quote, (3) what's included — haul-off, cleanup, stump grinding, and (4) how they talk about the work — pros discuss rigging, safe pruning windows, and tree health, not just price. The cheapest bid from an uninsured crew is usually the most expensive mistake available.
